How we select the best web hosting providers

Although we have been using most of the hosing companies both for ourselves and for our clients for over 7 years, we believe that isn’t enough to judge a company.

We all have different experiences in real life. So we have compiled competitive reviews from our clients and from other third-party ratings.

Web hosting best review.

Want to jump straight to the answer? Pressable and Scala Hosting are the best web hosting service providers. I’ve used them for myself and for my clients for seven years now.

Unlike other bloggers who review products they have never tested. I have 62 different domains hosted on different web hosting companies around the world.

I currently have 40 new domains without hosting. As you may have guessed, I’m a domain broker as well. My first four websites which were making so much profit and passive income at the time, were hacked. And I lost everything because I chose the wrong web hosting service provider.

What is a web hosting service provider?

Before we start talking about web hosting service providers and hosting issues, let’s try to understand what a web hosting service provider/company is and if you really need one.

So what is web hosting service provider? It may seem quite technically complex, but don’t worry, it’s actually quite simple.

Let’s start with something you’re more familiar with; like a website firstly. Imagine you ask a web designer to design a website for you. This is just the early stage so your website files are only stored on the web designer’s computer.

The next crucial step would be to choose a web hosting service provider like Pressable and register a domain name for your website. Once you have your hosting account and your domain name ready, you can now start to upload your web files to the server, which is connected to the internet.

When all your web files are uploaded to the server, then you will have a website which people will be able to see. When you rent space on a server from a web hosting service provider like Pressable, then this is what we call web hosting.

Types of web hosting plans

Most hosting providers offer several hosting plans. So no matter the level of your business and budget, there’s always a plan that fits you.

Here are the most common hosting plans:

  1. Shared hosting
  2. Virtual Server
  3. Dedicated Server

What is Shared Hosting & how does it work?

Shared web hosting is like renting to live in an apartment compared to other types of web hosting. It is the cheapest and is where most websites live. Like an apartment; It comes with all the basics like emails, WordPress, etc. Everything that enables you to easily run a website on your own. However, keep in mind that when you live in an apartment, you share the facilities with many other tenants or other websites.

What you do can affect everybody else. If your website becomes popular and gets huge traffic, then it’s possible that your apartment manager or web hosting service provider may suggest you move elsewhere.

Virtual Server

A virtual server hosting could be thought of as a townhouse. It’s larger so you have more rooms. You have more space than shared hosting. With virtual server, you are still sharing the property and its facilities such as processor usage however, it has fewer residents. You have more control so if you get more visitors to your website, then everything will be lot easier.

Dedicated web hosting

The third type of hosting available from web hosting service providers is called dedicated server. It is like being the owner of your own castle. You have a full control.

These servers are often favored by big businesses with popular websites. They’re more complex to manage, but they are much more powerful and expensive. You will have a large space so as long as you can cope, then you can have as many visitors as you want.

Web hosting is more like renting space on a server which connects your website to the internet.

Be aware of the “starting price“!

Before you choose a web hosting provider, be wary of their starting price. For most companies, it’s just a trick to attract new customers.

Most web hosting companies offer low starting prices and may require that you pay up front between two and three years.

The price to renew your hosting service can be up to three-times higher than the starting price. Keep that in mind.

Which hosting provider should you choose?

Well, “Where personal experience is concerned, we all speak a different language.” Everyone has his own favorite, but it’s very common to see people with same interests. I’m here to tell you my own experience with the web hosting service providers listed below.

But if you’re a complete beginner, I recommend you to ScalaHosting or Pressable as their set up is very simple. And you can always get your money back if you ever change your mind.

The position in which they appear has nothing to do with service quality. So HostGator being the first in the list doesn’t mean they’re best.

“Web hosting best” companies.

Namecheap was started in 2000 by Richard Kirkendall, and currently hosting over 2.5 million websites today. They are efficient and great for business. I started with Namecheap in 2012.

What do they have?

When it comes to web solutions, you can get almost everything done at one-place with Namecheap. From registering a new domain to launching a functional website. Thanks to their website builder, building a blog or any website can be much easier and faster.

Namecheap offers three different hosting plans: Stellar, Stellar Plus and Stellar Business. While their business plan is much stronger with rich features, you have all that is needed to start a successful blog or website with the Stellar Plus or baby plan.

Pros of Namecheap?

  2. All plans includes Free CDN, Free domain, Unmetered bandwidth and a lot more.
  3. Free website migration.

Cons of Namecheap?

  1. Their server is very aggressive. We often have issues uploading files especially JavaScript files.
  2. Sometimes their speed is slow.

A2 Hosting is 20 years old as of 2021. I have been with this company for five years and have already weighed its strengths against its weaknesses.

What do they have?

This company offers over five different hosting plans: Shared, WordPress, VPS, Reseller, Cloud and Dedicated. I have explained each plan and its packages below. So check them out.

You don’t have to spend hours figuring out which hosting plan to choose; Shared hosting is great for start-up bloggers and businesses. You can always upgrade to any plan whenever you want.

The only bad thing about this hosting company is customer support. If you are facing a problem and need to talk to customer support, be expect to wait for long.

Pros of A2 Hosting ?

  2. Excellent Cloud hosting services
  3. 99.9% uptime commitment.

HostForWeb has been in the hosting industry since 2001. This company has over 12 years of experience and more than two million websites under their belts.

I have been with this company for almost seven years now. They used to be really good, but recently, things aren’t just working out the way they used to be.

I was left hanging in the air when one of my blogs went down. I tried desperately reaching their support team, but to no avail. At that time, it wasn’t only me; dozen of their customers were also stranded with similar issues.

They later emailed me and said they did a server upgrade and that was where the problem came from. So, you need to be extra careful when hosting with this company.

And if you’re a complete beginner, then forget it because their customer support isn’t good and will not give you any guidance. Consider ScalaHosting instead.

What do they have?

HostForWeb offers five different hosting plans: Shared, Reseller, VPS, Cloud and Dedicated hosting.

Their Shared Mini is $50/year and comes with almost nothing. You can host one website, 10GB of SSD storage and a 100GB of traffic this Shared Mini.

To enjoy full features, you have to go for their Business Pro which cost $9.07/month and that’s too expensive especially for a startup business. But if you’re okay with the price, you can join me and my client in HostForWeb!

Pros of Hostforweb ?

  1. 30 days money back.
  2. Free daily vulnerability scan
  3. Beginner-friendly

Cons of Hostforweb?

  1. High price
  2. Much restrictions on starter plan
  3. Can’t pay monthly for starter plan

WPengine was started in 2010. This hosting company started with just one thing in mind; to focus completely on WordPress hosting. It’s a managed hosting platform that focuses only on WordPress installations.

With WPengine, the set-up is pretty simple and straightforward. You don’t have to worry about installing WordPress. Once you have created your hosting account and all the payment has gone through, WPengine handles the rest of your work. They will install WordPress and all the necessary setup for your account.

Trust me, you won’t get this from any other hosting company.

What do they have?

Under their manage hosting plan, there are five different packages to choose from. All packages come with a free 10 premium WordPress themes, free daily back-up, free migration and a free SSL.

Their Startup and Professional packages which cost $25 and $49 per month comes with almost the same features. Except that bandwidth for the Professional package is 125GB while the Startup package has 50GB of bandwidth.

You can also host up to three different websites with the Professional package compared to the startup package which comes with only one website.

Local storage for the Professional package is 15GB while the Startup package has 10GB. The other three packages are: Growth, Sale and Custom.

“Web hosting best” explained

What is included in a shared hosting plan?

  1. Single Domain (Added for free)
  2. Free WordPress Installs
  3. Unmetered Bandwidth
  4. Free SSL Certificate
  5. Free WordPress/Cpanel website Transfer
  6. Professional Email Address.

As a new beginner, it’s okay if you don’t understand all the list of services included in your hosting plan. I will explain to you. Let’s open one of our first package (Shared hosting Starter/Hatchling Plan) from Bluehost and see what’s inside that plan and what they mean.

  • Single Domain

What is single domain?

The single domain in your hosting plan simply means that you can only host one website/domain in your package/plan. If you are planning to host only one website, then this package is best for you. However, if you want to host multiple websites, you should consider choosing a plan that allows multiple domains like the PLUS from Bluehost.

  • Free WordPress Installs

WordPress is an application that allows you to easily build websites. WordPress is a free  and open-source content management system and it’s one of the most common services offered by web hosting companies. It takes just one/two clicks and few seconds to install this software.

  • Unmetered Bandwidth

What is Bandwidth and Unmetered Bandwidth?

It’s very important to understand all the service your web hosting service provider offers you. What is Bandwidth at the first place?

Bandwidth usage is the total amount of data transferred from your website over the course of a month. All files on your website like pictures, videos and all the content of your website has a size. The bigger the picture or the longer the video, the bigger the size of that file.

Bandwidth usage is calculated by multiplying the size of each part of your website by the number of times that part has been viewed. As your website gets more popular, your bandwidth usage will go up and you will have to pay for additional bandwidth or to upgrade your hosting plan.

Unmetered Bandwidth simply means that your web hosting service provider is offering a set amount of bandwidth you can use every month. With Unmetered Bandwidth, you’re not monitored by your web hosting service provider because there is no limit to the amount of data you can transfer. However, the speed at which you can transfer or the maximum server speed is limited when you use Unmetered Bandwidth.

  • Free SSL Certificate

What is SSL?

SSL stands for secure sockets layer. It’s a piece of software that encrypt data between a visitor’s computer and your web server.

Whenever you visit a website, take a look at the top left side of your browser and you will see something that looks like a padlock.

unsecure-connection
Web hosting best describes unsecure connection

A message that looks like the image above will show up when you click on the padlock icon. This tells visitors about the website. If you visit a website, and this warning appear, would you continue shopping or doing what you want to do? Probably not. And you wouldn’t be the only one. If not all, about 80% of your peers would also hit the close button.

In the early days, SSL is only necessary for websites that need to take personal information from visitors. However, these days, browsers have begun to alert visitors about unsecured websites. This is why it is a must to have an SSL for your blog.

A standard SSL is added to your package for free and you’re good to go with that.

  • $200 Marketing Offer

What are Marketing Credits?

Most web hosting service providers offer free Marketing Credits up to $200 which can be used to promote your brand-new site. But what exactly are marketing credits? Well, these are coupon codes that you can use to receive free money balance on advertising platforms.

They can be used to pay for your website advertising on popular platforms like Google AdWords, Bing, Yahoo, Yelp ..etc.

  • Free WordPress/CPanel Website Transfer

A WordPress Control Panel, short for CPanel is where you manage and control your website and its files. Your web hosting service provider will provide this for free. Website Transfer is the process of moving or transferring a website from one web hosting service provider to another. If you already have an existing website and want to change a web hosting service provider or hosting company, this can be easily done for free with HostGator.

  • Professional Email Address.

A professional email address is an email address that has your business name on it. Assume you have received two emails from our sales department with two different email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected]. You can tell that the first email address is a professional email address from divpare.com and the second one is from Gmail, which is a free email service.

A Professional email address will make your emails look more professional and trusted than free email services. All you need to set up a professional email address is a domain and a website. So once you registered your domain and setup your hosting account, you can set a nice professional email address for your business. Generally, it is free to get this service based on your web hosting service provider.

Conclusion

There are so many web hosting companies out there and if you’re new, it can be confusing deciding which company to go for.

Whether you are searching for the cheapest hosting company or the most robust company with premium services, I hope this article helps you find the best hosting service provider that best fit your need.
