Pare Corporation was retained by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management as part of the selected Design-Build team to design the pier replacement and bulkhead rehabilitation project at the Port of Galilee. The Port serves as Rhode Island’s largest commercial fishing fleet. The purpose of the project was to remove and reconstruct three of the most heavily used fishing piers and to repair the aging waterfront infrastructure along the north bulkhead. The piers were designed with stock timber sizes so damaged members can easily be replaced by Port staff periodically throughout the life of the pier. Bulkhead repairs include filling areas of subsidence, sheet pile patching, repaving, and installation of fender piles to protect the deteriorated sheet pile wall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total, since 2019, Pare has designed the removal and replacement of 10 piers as well as the rehabilitation of 2,200 feet of bulkhead within the Port of Galilee. Resiliency and sea level rise were considered throughout the design and construction-phase services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The port remained fully active for commercial, retail, and tourist activities during construction. Pare performed construction observation and administration to aid the owner’s representatives in contract oversight for this $5.2M project.
