The dam, originally constructed c. 1872, had numerous safety deficiencies including inadequate discharge capacity, sinkholes along the length of the dam, nonfunctional drainage systems, and severe erosion of the upstream slope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pare was retained to complete designs to address the deficiencies.
