Pare Corporation was hired by the Town of Jamestown to plan and design the first section of the Cross-Island Bike Path, a planned nearly 2.2 mile bicycle and pedestrian recreational facility intended to link to neighboring facilities as part of the RI Department of Transportation\u2019s network of bicycle facilities. Beginning at North Road adjacent to the Jamestown Reservoir, this first phase consisted of designing approximately 18,000 lineal feet of new trail along the toe of the reservoir dam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The design included plans for the trail, drainage system, and a pre-engineered pedestrian bridge to span over the reservoir spillway. Pare provided environmental permitting requirements from the RI Department of Environmental Management Freshwater Wetlands section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To minimize construction costs, the Town self-performed a majority of the trail construction. Pare prepared bridge plans that utilized a pre-engineered bridge supported on a geosynthetic reinforced soil (GRS) substructure system and return walls.
