The Boland Pump Station was constructed in 1965 to serve Southborough\u2019s High-Service Area, which encompasses about 52% of the Town\u2019s 9,000 water system customers. However, the station was operating with refurbished pumps, no back-up power, and antiquated control technology. In addition, the pumps were undersized for future demand and much of the mechanical equipment was corroded from years of chlorine injection. The station was in need of significant mechanical and electrical upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Town engaged Pare to evaluate the pump station, identify necessary system upgrades, and prepare a bid package of drawings and specifications for upgrading the station. The improvements included new pumps, motors, an emergency generator, and all new electrical and communication systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As this pump station is the primary source of water for over half the Town, one particular challenge of this project was to phase the station upgrades in a manner that kept the station on-line during the entire project.
