Pare was a member of the Project Team selected by Rhode Island College to perform a feasibility study of two of the largest academic building complexes on the campus to determine their potential to meet the needs of the evolving academic programs at the college. Pare’s engineering services included structural building condition assessments of the 3- and 5-story buildings and an evaluation of the existing utility infrastructure of the two facilities to identify required upgrades and improvements necessary to support the expansion of the facilities. In a separate competitive bid process, the same Project Team was selected to continue the project into final design. Pare provided civil and structural engineering design for this phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Structural design included interior renovations such as wall removals and\/or reinforcements, a prominent curtain wall, new elevators, and stair renovations, as well as the design of approximately 23,700 square feet of new additions to both buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Site\/civil services included subsurface soil investigations and site layout, drainage, and utility plans. The stormwater management design incorporates a closed drainage system with on-site water quality structures and surface stormwater detention through water quality swales, rain gardens, and bioretention areas to obtain no net increase in the rate of runoff from the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
