Pare Corporation provided engineering services for the new East Providence High School, the first new public high school to be built in Rhode Island in two decades. The $189.5-million, four-story, 304,000-SF building features ten science labs, a 900-seat auditorium, a digital music lab with music classrooms and practice rooms, and a library resource center with open areas for students to work collaboratively. It also includes a Career and Technical Center with a construction lab, a radio and television broadcast studio, and graphic arts classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pare provided structural, site\/civil, environmental, and traffic engineering services for the project. Notable building features incorporated into the structural design include extensive glass curtainwall systems backed by structural steel; roof monitors; an elevated walking track; and sloped steel on the 3rd floor to support auditorium-style seating within open lecture halls. Large column-free spaces were required within the gymnasium, auditorium, and student commons area. The design of these spaces was complicated by the need to support upper-story classroom spaces on these large spans. Pare worked closely with the Architect to design framing members that could support these loads while maintaining consistent floor-to-floor heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project incorporates energy-efficient and healthy living design standards to qualify for Northeast Collaborative for High Performance Schools (NE-CHPS) certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
